America-Japan Grassroots SummitOpening CeremonyWednesday, August 25, 2010
Please join us on August 25th to give a warm welcome to the 2010 summit participants at the official opening ceremony of the America Japan Grassroots Summit. We will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Kanrin Maru’s arrival to the San Francisco Bay and learn about our local historical ties to Japan. This year, for the first time in the history of the summit, the descendants of John Manjiro, Captain Whitfield, Commodore Matthew Perry and the 18th Head of the Tokugawa Shogunate family will participate together in the opening ceremony. We will have the rare opportunity to hear stories from the descendants of the individuals who played a significant role in the opening of Japan's doors to the United States. Help us acknowledge the history, people, sister city and friendship ties and projects bridging US-Japan relations as well as enjoy some very special entertainment honoring the occasion. Please join us in this wonderful opportunity!
